Gardening and You

Nature relaxes and refreshes us, and is deeply healing and rewarding.

And by nature, I mean the natural world of plants, animals, rocks, sky, mountains, insects, water, and earth combined with all the seasons.

If you’ve ever stopped to admire a flower or tree, then you know what I mean, and understand the impact nature has on us.

Humans are a part of nature and interact with it in numerous ways.

Some of my most favorite ways to interact with nature are:

  • taking walks in a park or wooded area;
  • going on trips to remote areas;
  • going to the beach;
  • taking pictures of plants and animals; and
  • collating nature images on Pinterest.

This is when I woke up and smelled the roses.

I take so much pleasure in interacting with technology that I’ve lost the true experience of being out there seeing, touching, tasting, smelling and feeling the textures of nature’s beauty.

Before college, I was a member of a garden club, attended and participated in meetings, and visited and took part in flower shows.

Sadly, I didn’t take pictures because I was so caught up in the administrative side of things.

After college, I focused on my newly minted teaching career and neglected my plants, and dropped my garden club membership.

Not only that, but I took wings and flew away from home leaving my plants in my mother’s care.

Sadly, she doesn’t have my affinity for potted plants nor my patience (I love you, Mom).

A few years ago, I decided I wanted back “in” with my plants and got off to a good start.

But, I became ill and lost my footing.

In 2015, I decided I needed my plants:

Because they are my way of reducing stress. Since then I’ve been actively amassing plants.

The good thing is I have friends who also love flowers and they are the ones who are now supplying me (thanks, guys).

Enough About Me

Is Gardening Making a Comeback?

Many persons are curious if gardening is making a comeback:

But my answer is, gardening didn’t go anywhere.

We are the ones that have let one of the simple pleasures of life slip away.
